I remember the first time that I realized I was madly in love with you. It was this childish, giddy feeling that I couldn’t shake. I felt like I was in love for the first time again, but this time it felt different, a feeling I didn’t understand until now. We were doing long distance for a short time over winter break and I thought every day about how I was going to tell you that I loved you when I saw you again.
You, of course, beat me to it, taking me to a gorgeous view overlooking the valley one night. It was there that you told me you loved me and I fell in love all over again.
I think you and I both know that our relationship started off a little different than most, and at this point in time, has taken a few different courses than most. However, I realize today that all of these courses are exactly the reason I couldn’t shake that feeling of our love being different from the first few moments. Every day I am reminded that your love and the love we share is worth every single moment.
It is worth the hard days when my anxiety is high, because your love comforts. It is worth the Sundays spent finding small creeks in the forest, because your love is an adventure. It is worth the slow nights watching our favorite show, because your love is gentle. It is worth the communication on a difficult day, because your love speaks and resolves. It is worth the mornings cooking breakfast in the apartment, making jokes, and goofing off, because your love is to be shared over breakfast for two. It is worth the nights falling asleep together, because your love is embracing. It is worth all of the serious conversations and time spent learning the ins and outs of each other, because your love is steady.
And more than anything, it is worth the distance, because your love and my love for you is unwavering. In all these times and all these moments, I have come to realize that your love felt so different because it was not the kind that would run at the sight of struggle. Your love was the kind to stay grounded, resolve the hard moments, and cherish the good ones. Through all the distance we will face in our lives together, and through all of the moments that are happy, sad, scary, exciting, and kind, your love is worth every single one.
